Good if you want to see different firearms, bad if you want to make a purchase.
I've gone to ATP a few times now for a few different things.
The first time I went was on my 21st birthday and I was in the market to buy an SR-22. It was, and still is, a highly sought after pistol. I saw a Talo exclusive there, I'm unsure if it was the laser or the rail light, and decided to pass when I saw they wanted almost $500 for it.
The next time I went I was just there to look around. A really cool salesman helped me and my boyfriend out with looking at a Beretta Jetfire which was used, but reasonably priced. We looked around some more and saw that their prices on other hand guns were pretty steep. We looked at an SR-22, but when I asked to see the SR-22 the salesman handed me an LCR-22 and we had to correct him. We went back to the Jetfire in the end and asked to see it, and I believe the store owner helped us. He did almost everything possible to talk us out of this gun. Granted, if we had wanted it we would have gotten it, but he said that the gun wasn't good for anything. I agree, it is not a self defense handgun since it was only a .22 short caliber, but he even knocked the gun down and said it wasn't a good plinker. Then, he pushed Ladies Night on me.
The third time I went was interesting to say the least. Talked to a couple of different salesmen. One of them didn't really have a clue about anything and told me everything I already knew about what I was looking at. The other salesman we talked to was working in overdrive to make a sale. Again, I looked at an SR-22 (I finally got one, but not from them because they wanted $400 for a basic one) and made a comment to my boyfriend on how it had a threaded barrel. The salesman immediately pulled us over to the Walther P22 (I won't knock it because it is a good gun and I would like one eventually) and began to explain how it was superior to the SR22. I don't mind opinions, but the least they could do is talk to me about the gun I'm interested in and not try to push a different one on me. Maybe mention it, but don't completely pull me away from what I want and bash it. He also harped on us about the four rules of gun safety, while pointing a pistol at his hand, sweeping my boyfriend and I several times, and dry firing at his hand and my boyfriend. And due to another incident that happened that night, it's clear the salesmen do not pay enough attention to firearm safety.
Another thing to note about every time I've gone with my boyfriend is that, with the exception of one salesman, each salesman treated us like we knew absolutely nothing. They acted like we didn't even know the four safety rules. We both deserve, and many other customers deserve, more credit than that.
The next time I went was for ladies night, which was horrible. I had experience shooting before going to ladies night, and I know my way around a firearm. If this was anyone's first time shooting a gun I feel sorry for them. The way they taught us to grip the guns wasn't entirely wrong, but they didn't even mention making sure that the palm of your non-dominate hand was seated against the grip. Safety rules were mentioned, but not very well followed as the instructor swept me (and the girl beside me) with her pistol a few times. Instead of teaching you to eject your magazine with your dominate hand (and subsequently adjusting your grip), they taught you to use your other hand to eject the magazine. The same thing goes with the safety. Basically, they dumbed the class down for ladies which I almost find offensive. (Did I forget to mention that you're, apparently, suppose to rack the slide of your semi-automatic pistol with two fingers? Try that with your 9mm and see how it works for you.) A woman can learn to shoot any caliber and any hand gun, rifle, or shotgun that a man can, and she can learn to shoot it that same way a man does. Ladies night needs a serious over haul. Okay, yes, range time was super fun. You got 50 .22 LR rounds and got to shoot an SR-22 and a Ruger SP-101, but the class room time itself needs an overhaul.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend buying anything from ATP right now. They are price gouging their guns and ammunition badly due to the shortage. Maybe once all of this mess is over they will have reasonable prices, but until then I will maybe use my 5 free range passes and go there to have a chance to handle different fire arms since they do have so many in stock constantly, but as far as buying anything from them I'm a definite no.Written
good and bad
ATP is a great store to shop with hundreds of guns. The range offers dozens of guns to rent which is great when trying before buying. However, their prices are much higher than other shops in the area with no room for negotiation. Some of the employees are very knowledgable while others are very young and biased in their opinions with just enough knowledge to make them dangerous. I go there to shoot at their nice range and check out the huge selection of models, but find prices are better elsewhere.Written
