Awful management and annoying/harassing Range Officer
Where do I even begin to start with this place...Trader World gun & Indoor Range is an unprofessional and overpriced hole in the wall, and the "Range Nazi" was harassing and annoying.
So I'm fairly new to the Charleston area...moved here in Aug. 2014 from Columbia...so I'm used to shooting at Shooter's Choice and Palmetto State Armory. So this past Saturday, I decided i wanted to take my girlfriend to shoot, and being that she was a first time shooter, I felt that going to Trader World over ATP would be more ideal, as I assumed it would be more relaxed and less moving parts.
So I arrive at Trader World Gun & Indoor Range at 6:15pm on Saturday...and the range is open until 7. Immediately as I walk in the door, I got the sense that I wasn't really welcomed there from the Range Manager arrogant manager, but I overlooked it bc I was ready to put some rounds down range.
So I begin some small talk with the range manager as he's having me and my girlfriend fill out the range checklist sheet, and ask him what is the hourly range fee. He tells me that it is $10/per hour per person, and although I would only have 25 mins to shoot, I would be charged for a full hour, and I had to pay before I shot. I felt that the price was a little high, considering the place was a hole in the wall, and i had never been to a range where you had to prepay before you shot, but at this point I really could have cared less bc I just wanted to shoot.
So my girlfriend actually make it into the range at about 6:30pm and I begin laying out the weapons to shoot (A FiveSeven, Glock 27, sig P238, and Ruger LCP). As I begin laying out the weapons, the Range Nazi walks up to my girlfriend and starts harassing her, asking if she had shot before, asking if she was scared...yada yada, then asked "If she wanted over the head ear muffs for when the other shooter at the end starts shooting his big gun." She politely says not, as both of us had brought our own eyes and ears from home. Well he continues to bother her, and at this point I ask him to step off a little bit, that we were fine.
So I load the Fiveseven and begin shooting. I got maybe 12 rounds out before the annoying range nazi again comes over to my lane and asks "What are you shooting?" I tell him it's a Fiveseven as I continue shooting, and he snatches one of my mags off of the loading table without even asking me, and taps it on the window for the range manager to see. He leaves the range for a few minutes, and after I finished my magazine, I walked out to see what the problem was.
The range manager then told me that I couldn't shoot the Fiveseven on the range, and I asked why? I told him that I was not shooting the armor piercing ammo, I was shooting the 5.7 x 28mm blue tip Range Specified FN ammo...ammo that I have shot on many an indoor range and is safe to shoot on the range.
At this point I was more than irritated by the Range Nazi harassing my girlfriend, and taking it upon himself to take my mag out of the range area, so I told the range manager that I didn't like the way that his range was run, and I didn't appreciate his Range Officer taking my magazine and walking off with it.
At this point my girlfriend and I were kicked off the range. Which was actually fine with me, bc she was telling me that we should go when the after the Range Officer had harassed her. Then to top it off, the overly dramatic Range Nazi goes outside to the back of the range, and comes back inside telling me that I'm lucky that I didn't cause any damage to the cop car sitting behind the range.
So after having my time rudely wasted, we double-timed it to ATP Gun Shop and Range in Summerville SC, because this range also closed at 7pm. We made it there at 7:01pm, but the range staff was still more than friendly and allowed us to shoot. ATP has a much better range, there was no annoying "Range Nazi" bothering us, and the range price is half the cost of Trader World Gun & Indoor Range at $5/per hour per person.
Long story short...Unless you enjoy being harassed by an overdramatic and annoying Range Officer, overpaying for range time, and dealing with an arrogant and rude manager, don't waste your time or money going to Trader World Gun & Indoor Range.Written
